I had Gastric Sleeve about a month ago and I’m still feeling lots of hunger. Is there anything I can do with my diet to help these hunger pains?
I’m afraid the sleeve didn’t work for me đ

Dear "Help,"
I wouldn't conclude that the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy (VSG) hasn't "worked" for you this soon after having had it done only one month ago. You may still feel hungry but be able to lose weight. You should try to limit your eating to meal times only and eliminate snacking if at all possible. Any snacks should have low caloric content and meals should concentrate on 'protein first.' Any/all liquid calories (including liquid protein shakes) should be avoided to maximize the sense of satiety that you feel with a minimum of calories consumed.
I'd recommend that you maintain a rigorous food diary to document all of the calories that you consume. A routine program of exercise should also help with your weight loss and help to blunt your hunger. Stay in touch with your bariatric surgeon and maintain routine follow-up with him/her as well as routinely attend support group meetings so that you can be assisted in your weight loss journey.
Work with your new 'tool' and you may be pleasantly surprised in a few more months how effective of a tool your VSG is to help with your weight loss. If, despite your best efforts, your desired weight loss remains elusive, consider undergoing revisional bariatric surgery, this time incorporating malabsorption (along with the VSG's restriction) to improve your opportunity to lose the weight.

Patient Responses to the Question Above
Gastric Sleeve
by: Evi S
I'm 9 weeks post op and I have lost a total of 21 pounds not including the 12 I lost pre -operatively ( 33 total). Having this procedure is life changing. I have made a commitment to do this weight loss successfully, not only changing what and how I eat but how I think about food and incorporate exercise in my daily routine. I had the sleeve done by Dr. Fourman in the Toledo area and he is very through, conscientious and serious about this program.
The program is successful because he believes in what he is doing. There are support groups and dietitians available to make this program a success. They provide a on site gym for the use of the patients and they also provide the ease of purchasing the supplements and shakes at the center. There is a non-surgical weight loss program offered as well. My Journey is well on its way - in this year of 2108 my motto is... "A new year ... A NEW me"
