I had lap band surgery several years ago and recently have been experiencing acid reflux and now a dry scratchy and slightly sore throat. I have been taking Nexium which has reduced the acid reflux.
Do you think this has to do with the band? What are your recommendations?

Hi June,
I do think that the reflux might very well be related to your lap band. You could loosen up your band and it might help with the reflux, but this will most likely cause you to gain weight. My recommendations before loosening your band are:
1) Talk to your doctor about increasing your dosage of PPIs and/or taking additional medication to control the acid.
2) Avoid foods that might cause reflux, like high fat foods, coffee, alcohol, spicy foods, etc.
3) Avoid having any foods at least 2 -3 hours before bedtime.
Check to see how this works before adjusting your band to avoid weight regain.
Good Luck,
