Servere burning and pain when I eat and drink 7 years after lap band surgery

Question Below Submitted By:

Kelly T (a patient from Lincoln, Lincolnshire, United Kingdom )

It started yesterday, and I thought it was because I ate an orange on an empty stomach and have not eaten one for a year. It felt like the inside of my stomach was burned. I can feel every amount of liquid or food, and food can be extremely painful, go through the band.

I am taking indigestion remedies by the handful, and this does not appear to solve the problem. I can tolerate liquid better than solid food.

Could I have picked up an infection of the lining of my stomach, or could this be something more serious (i.e. the gastric band problem)?

Hi Kelly T,

Congrats on being successful with the band for 7 years.

New symptoms like the burning you are having could be something as simple as irritation to your pouch, or something more serious like a band erosion.

So, I agree with the previous answer, that you should contact your surgeon or primary MD...you most likely will need an upper endoscopy.

Good Luck,

Patient Responses to the Question Above

contact your doc

by: Yvonne McCarthy

On things like this it is really important to contact your doc just to be safe. I have some very knowledgeable veteran Lap Band friends but I know they would say the same thing. Please let us know what you find out!
