Gastric Balloon Surgery After Failed Lap Band

Question Below Submitted By:

Anonymous

I had my lap band removed just over 2 years ago.

Can I still have the gastric balloon procedure done? Is there any reason that a former or current lap band patient would not be able to have gastric balloon procedure done?

If so, why not?

Surgeon response to "Gastric Balloon Surgery After Failed Lap Band"

Thank you for your question. It is a very good one.

Although I think the intragastric balloon would be a wonderful procedure for post Lap Band patients, the FDA contraindications or list of conditions that will exclude you from getting a balloon include any type of previous bariatric surgery.

Therefore, we cannot currently offer the balloon to former Lap Band patients.
