Would liver disease because of weight be considered more urgent than other health issues?

I have been diagnosed with liver disease and the only way to repair it is to lose weight. I have fought my weight all my life so I am scared.

My doctor suggested weight loss surgery, so I am going to get him to refer me to a weight loss surgeon in Victoria (BC). However, the wait list I have been told is over three years, and the longer I stay overweight the more damage is being done to my liver.

Victoria (BC) Bariatric clinic states they don't do surgery first come first served. Instead, they treat in order of severity of health condition.

Weight Loss Surgery Options Outside of Canada NEW
by: Jeff

Hi there,

Regarding your question, "Would liver disease because of weight be considered more urgent than other health issues?", I would suggest asking the doctor who recommended weight loss surgery.

As far as the three year wait, your other option would be to travel abroad and have the surgery elsewhere. The downside is obviously the need to pay for the surgery yourself.

Fortunately, there are several financing options that can make this less burdensome.

Click here to review your seven financing options, and click here to find a weight loss surgeon in another country.

If you find that prices in the United States are too high, you may want to consider other countries such as Mexico. But before you do, review this page about Weight Loss Surgery Mexico and abroad.

Take care,

I wish I had an answer for you on this one. Needing this to cure a disease would put you ahead of the people on the list for weight loss, I would think. But, not sure if it is going to be the case or not for you. Is there someone you can call and ask this?

Sorry I wasn't more help. Best of luck to you.
