Why I Chose Lap Band Over Gastric Bypass

by Lap Band Gal
(Oregon)

Originally, I had chosen the gastric bypass surgery. It seemed like the best option for me as I had over 100 lbs to lose.

However, after meeting with the surgeon, he recommended the gastric band for me since I was self-pay. This caused me to research all there was out there on the internet, support groups, etc on the gastric band. There is so much information out there to sift through.

I ended up ruling out the gastric bypass procedure after discussing it with my surgeon. The main point for me was that the band is adjustable. It's my tool to use as I wanted to use it.

Once I agreed that the band was for me, my surgeon let me make the decision to choose the gastric lap band procedure (Realize Band or Lap Band).

I ended up choosing the Lap Band because there is fill in the band right away at surgery. I had about 4.5 ccs at time of surgery. I actually never really went through “bandster hell” as a lot of banded patients call it. “Bandster hell” is the extreme hunger experienced post surgery and before any fills.

I am happy with my choice of the Lap Band as I was never really hungry. I also chose the Lap Band because it had been around longer with a longer safety record. It has turned out to be the best decision for ME.

Do your research and find out if surgery is for you and which type of bariatric surgery will work best for YOU.

Good for you!
by: Yvonne McCarthy (Bariatric Girl)

Even though I had gastric bypass I have said many times that I know without a doubt that I would have been successful with lap band too. I know successful post-ops from every surgery type and I have also seen bad results from every surgery. I believe it is a tool and if you use it properly you will get the results you want. Good for you on your success and your self pay.
Hugs, Yvonne
