Weight loss surgery support group is a key component in your success!!

by Traci (Bariatric Life Coach)
(Indianapolis, IN)

Weight loss surgery support group is a vital part of success. I truly believe in support on all different levels because we all have different needs.

I attended support groups for two (2) years prior to surgery to hear firsthand from patient experience and to become more educated first and foremost my support at home has always been positive from my husband and son. They have been around through the thick and thin of my obesity to surgery and now in post op life.

I have been a member of weight loss surgery forums since 2006 where I participated in the forums and asked questions. I joined a local support online forum in my area where I met other WLS patients and resources. I also attended a physical bariatric surgery support group facilitated by the dietitians from the bariatric clinic I had chosen to have surgery with.

In 2010 I became a trained support group leader through one of the online forums. In 2011 I became a trained support group leader through the clinic where I had surgery. I now have the opportunity to facilitate local support groups and be another level of support for our WLS community. I encourage everyone to research and receive the support you need to make your journey a success!
