find a bariatric surgeon

Spark people

by Traci (Bariatric Life Coach)

When my dietician first talked about journaling I was already on board... I constantly carried a pad of paper in my purse to keep track of my vitamins so now I would just add my food.

As time went by I discovered that I would forget to write down what I ate because I would forget my pad of paper. Then when I did I have my paper I found myself struggling with the idea of trying to figure out my exact amounts of protein, etc.

After a few weeks of struggling I decided to search the web. That is when I found Spark People. I figured out that I was on the computer all day long and would have constant access to the web. No more carrying my pad of paper around or forgetting to bring it with me.

Spark People allows me to choose options from pre-loaded foods and nutritional information and also gives me the opportunity to enter foods I eat on a daily basis and saves those in a list. I also use the note feature on the page to write down anything that I might be going through physically/emotionally.

The site offers recipes, nutritional tracking, exercise and a plethora of information.

For me seeing in writing what I am eating and how much I consume in calories, protein etc. helps keep me on track. It’s another way of keeping me accountable and also gives me a way to reflect on my eating habits and where improvements need to be made.

In my opinion journaling in any form (online, paper, on your phone, outlook calendar) is an additional resource to use as an accountability tool and help keep us on track to becoming successful weight loss patients!
