find a bariatric surgeon

Ontario- Lapband

by Deborah
(Southern Ontario, Canada)

Not worth the money!!! In 2003, I paid $15,000, drove to Montreal (because SARS made it impossible to have the surgery in Scarborough Grace as planned) and endured a total of 3 surgeries (one to repair the tube which split lengthwise....a never before heard of problem at the time and another to relocate the port for easier fill access).

After my last surgery, I was left with no fill at all which severely limited the constriction. 8 years later, I weight 5 lbs MORE than before the surgery. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone that had an addiction to food like I do. I think the only type of person it would work for is someone who is purely an overeater.

There is so much more to being overweight than just being fat. There is actually more head work that needs to be done than just the physical restriction, as restriction will not stop chocolate, ice cream, candy, etc. It stops overeating pizza or burgers and fries but if I can't eat that I go or something that WILL go down.....like chocolate, potato chips or ice cream!!! Mashed potatoes covered in butter and sour cream goes down just fine!!

Now, I have no recourse. The surgeon and his big expensive clinic can't be bothered to deal with the after care of people like me. There's always the next guy willing to pay the (now increased) price. They got the money from me so seeing me anymore costs them money.

I plan to have the band removed. It does me absolutely NO benefit, but lots of problems....pain, vomiting, and I would kill to eat a steak or a burger!!
