Once insulin-dependent, but now a combined 200 lbs lighter, two friends embarked on a 325-mile biking adventure

Tom Bilcze and Chuck Gough, both Ohio residents, are living diabetes-free and recently embarked on a bicycling trip from Pittsburgh to Washington, D.C. The two friends traveled more than 325 miles in nine days carrying all of their supplies on their bicycles.

Tom and Chuck both became cyclists after having bariatric surgery in Ohio. Tom has lost about 90 lbs. since lap band surgery in 2008 and Chuck has lost 135 lbs. since gastric bypass surgery in 2009.

Prior to his surgery, Chuck was prescribed 14 different medications and frequently required a cane for walking. Today, he only takes one medication, and his blood pressure, cholesterol and triglycerides now remain at healthy levels.

Tom and Chuck have documented their journeys with a blog: http://crossingmountains.com/
