My first complication after Gastric Bypass

Like any other surgery, bariatric surgery has risks/side effects and complications. I had Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass surgery on October 18, 2007 and my first complication happened within 5 days of my surgery.
My anastomosis (connection of the stomach to the small intestine (jejunum)) healed so quickly that it actually closed up so anything I put in instantly come back up! Picture when you wash dishes in the sink and place a stopper so no water escapes into the drain. That's similar to what happened to me internally.
I had been informed of all risks/side effects and complications prior to surgery, which ranged from minor to severe. This was the first surgery I’d ever had and I honestly never imagined my body would react by actually healing too quickly! My surgeon took me back to the operating room and made the necessary corrections so things started flowing correctly.
We are all different when it comes to how our bodies react to weight loss surgery. My advice is to listen to your body because it knows when something isn’t right.
