Lap Band Surgery to Enable Me to Go Back to Work

by Cathy
(Toronto)

My decision to have lap band surgery was ultimately to loose weight and enable me to go back to work. I have some fairly severe back issues and with the added weight I have gained over the past few years, I came to a point where I could not work, and the fact that I couldn't exercise just exacerbated the problems.

I went to the lab band clinic for the first time in March, and a surgery date was set then and there for May 16th. I was advised that because my BMI was too high for surgery, that I should loose 40 lbs. prior to May 16th. Well, I certainly had some difficulties during that period.

I started off like gangbusters having lost 9 lbs. in a 1 week period, and then the weight loss went down to 1 or 2 lbs. and/or none. In the end, I did loose 23 lbs. - down to 320 lbs total - and that was just enough to get me the surgery!

I can't say what improvements I have felt yet, but I feel quite positive that I chose the right bariatric surgery for me, lap band vs. roux-en-y gastric bypass, etc. I can see the potential of this device, and I feel like I'll never have to loose the weight I've just lost, again!!
